Sept 21st
So waking up this morning, and laying flat on my back, has produced more sensations than I have felt to date. The consciousness and awareness when I cannot actually see my legs is truly there for both of my legs. The senses are truly there on both sides, albeit slightly different, with different areas responding more or less, which also reinforces the fact that they are there!
This truly wasn’t the case. Waking up in the rehab hospital, I barely had anything down there registering, and it was difficult to know that they were there. I think the word is “proprioception” – perception or awareness of a particular part of the body, this sense has been growing for not just both legs, but for the different parts within my leg.
I know that the senses change everyday, but this truly has been a significant one, where on my right leg, I truly am “sensing” where the entire right leg and foot is, but I’m working thru each individual muscle, my foot, the joints that are there, and a sense of temperature that you are feeling within them as well. The left leg is feeling these same feelings for my foot, my shin, my knee, my quad and my hip. Not quite as significant, but it is there.
For the changes in my bowel and bladder, the feeling and sense of being “full” is probably the most significant, with these becoming more in tune with me everyday. I still set an alarm for when I need to go, but just yesterday I was getting a little alarm to go off in my own head for when I need to empty things. Which is great! I’m thinking this is the start of it all!
My back, when I had the opportunity to lay on my stomach yesterday felt better than it had in a few days. I think that opening of my hips, and moving around in the prone position was truly helpful to me. I did lay in that position for quite some time as well, and the spasms are much less prevalent.
With the incoming arrival of less spasms, it feels like my legs are really here. As I was starting to sense when they were being moved by the spasm, that was also a change, where it usually was feeling of a tugging in my abdomen, region I could feel.
I know the muscle groups are feeling “tight” especially in my right leg. I’m figuring that as there is a lot of room for development of those muscles, they fatigue and tire quickly. Causing an increase in tightness.
I’m not going to stop with the progress, I’m truly motivated to feel and respond to any and all feeling down there, with each day creating new opportunities!

Mom made the Hungarian bratwurst that Mr Huth gave us! So we decided to make the Vanguard twist on it and made the Salazar! So it’s got Hungarian Hot Bratwurst, cream cheese, pineapple, shredded cheese, and bbq sauce! This was so good!!
