7/23

I can’t even believe it, but my mother’s butterscotch pie is one of the few things that can always put a smile on my face. Truly. Coming back home from the hospital was the reason she made this, and I’m extremely grateful! Goodness.
Wow, am I glad mom found The Recovery Project! I’m really glad Lauren had recommended this place for me! I’m excited to get back in PT and OT tomorrow! My body hurts a ton, my ribs are sore, but I’m glad to get back moving.
7/24 – First Day At TRP!
Wow! This was a great first session! There definitely is a bunch of people here too, and I really feel like they are giving me some hope! They asked if I had a ‘complete’ or ‘incomplete’ injury, and I told em I wasn’t sure. I know there’s something going on in my legs!
I don’t have all the paperwork from Froedtert, and I’ll have to ask to try to get that sent over somehow. I’m not sure why the medical industry is so slow?
The team here has already got me working on my legs, and has gotten me on the FES bike! I’m so happy to be using my legs again! The first week back home wasn’t the best because I had to go back to the hospital, which sucked. That was hard. Especially in an environment that people don’t know your situation. That was not so fun. Glad to be back home, and seeing my family.
7/27 – More Therapy!

The FES bike has been a really interesting piece of equipment that we use at the start of each therapy session! I’m envisioning myself back on the bike. Getting on Oakland, to get to the Beer-line Trail. I would always start my rides off fast, trying to get myself woken up, and my body going!
That’s exactly how I feel on the FES, just trying to get my legs to wake up more and more. We do short sessions before PT standing work, which is really cool! It’s so interesting too, being so close to the Carpathia Club. That’s where I would practice for soccer, and it’s so surreal being back over here.
It’s fun talking to the aids when getting set up, Al, and the whole team. Man oh man I really need to get just a little bit more power out!
Working with Maddie is always great! She’s got some interesting and creative ways to try to help me get up to stand. Be it in the parallel bars, off the mat and pushing on her shoulders, you name it! I am pretty lucky to have found this place and this team! She’s been great. I don’t know what it is exactly yet, but she really has a great demeanor and personality to help with all this! She has so much faith in me!
Then I move over to work with Katie! She’s been great helping with the OT work! It’s funny too because the OT in the rehab hospital was also named Katie! I can’t believe how hard all this core work is, especially in this back brace. This thing really is a chore sometimes, and my ribs are always sore. Ugh.
7/28
This seems to be an all too common sight for me these days… the internet here is no good over in this room!

7/29 – Visitors At The House!
Had some visitors today! Michael and Bailey came over to visit! And brought their little fella Casey over! Look at this little feller! What a great visit! Glad to know I still have friends who care! This was great they took some time to come and visit! Hopefully they come again soon!

There’s very few true joys in life, I feel like I can participate in these days. Sleeps hard, getting up I need my mom to help me out of bed, bathing I do with a bucket. So the one simple pleasure I get to indulge in, is eating! Boy, do I love this goulash that my mom makes. I don’t know what the cut of meat is, what the gravy is, or what. It’s just so gosh darn delicious! These egg noodles really soak up the flavors of the gravy, and the paprika really gives it a nice kick! I know that people across America call a dish ‘goulash’ that isn’t quite exactly real goulash. But this right here, this is the real deal.

Hopefully this helps for a better night sleep than I usually get. Goodness I’m so exhausted when I go to sleep, but I also never feel rested when I get up. Ugh. Well, let’s enjoy this for now.
